Which cities and communities are in Harris County?
Answered by Allen Markel, REALTOR®, Texas Premier Realty ·
Short answer
Our Harris County page covers 15 cities: Houston, Katy, Cypress, Spring, Tomball, Humble, Hockley, Baytown, Crosby, Pasadena, Huffman, Waller, La Porte, Seabrook and Kingwood. Houston has the most active listings (11,566), followed by Katy (1,576), Cypress (1,330), Spring (1,154) and Tomball (749). The counts are MLS city labels, and a mailing city does not always match the municipality or school district, so use the address for tax and school questions. Harris County has other cities as well.
What are the 15 city pages and how large are they?
The table lists the 15 cities on the site with current active listing counts, refreshed at 2026-09-25. Houston is by far the largest, at 11,566. The next tier is Katy (1,576, part of which lies in Fort Bend and Waller counties), Cypress (1,330), Spring (1,154), Tomball (749), Humble (691), Hockley (643), Baytown (462) and Crosby (458). Smaller pages are Pasadena (250), Huffman (200), Waller (176), La Porte (139), Seabrook (126) and Kingwood (118). Each city page shows live listings, schools and neighborhoods drawn from the MLS. Growth pages sit alongside the counts. On each city page the site shows live listings, market figures and school data, so a reader can move from the county to a city and then to a subdivision. The counts on the county page are active listings only, and do not include pending or sold homes, which are counted separately in the market figures. They update through the day as new listings arrive and sold listings drop off.
What should I know about city labels?
A listing's city is the mailing city entered in the MLS, which follows postal delivery rather than municipal limits. Many homes with a Houston or Cypress mailing address are in unincorporated Harris County and pay no city tax, and school districts cross city lines: Cypress addresses are in three districts. Other incorporated places in the county, such as Bellaire, Webster and Friendswood, also appear in our tax data. In the community registry, Harris County is one of the six counties covered, with Fort Bend, Montgomery, Waller, Grimes and Austin. For a tax or school answer, start from the address. To find the taxing units for a specific home, use its HCAD account, which lists every unit and code. If you are relocating, the same house can have very different tax rates depending on whether it is inside a city, a MUD, or both, so ask for the certified total rate when comparing two addresses across city labels.
