What are the counts and where do they come from?
The counts come from a places database that we use for the map on the Cypress page, drawn from public place listings. We count the places whose location falls inside a box around all active Cypress listings, padded by about two hundredths of a degree, which is roughly 14 miles north to south and 15 miles east to west. Because Cypress is largely unincorporated, that box is a better guide to what a Cypress address can reach than the postal boundary, but it also takes in parts of neighboring areas. The table lists the categories with their counts and includes grocery stores, parks, hospitals and emergency rooms, banks, pharmacies, libraries and post offices. Some of the counts are small enough to check by hand: 7 hospitals, 7 emergency rooms, 3 libraries, 5 post offices and 1 urgent care clinic.
